{AN: Another view from the vampire Q from “Can Dead Flowers Grow”. They’re in a very different place than the last time I revealed them to you. They have under gone a strange transformation they’re still defining. Sami has been their companion since they entered the forest. Based off the song “Tatum Springs” by Nick Shoulders}

“I’m sad you’re leaving, but excited for you to go.” Sami chided from the bed.

“Me too.” Q smiled, packing their bag for the journey ahead.

Outside was early morning that had traded the nightly chill for the creeping heat of the sun. The bug chitters and the leave rustles call to Q and they couldn’t wait to answer.

“I love you, Q. I want to make sure you’re armed with that before you leave.”

Q chuckled. “Are you worried about my survival?” Imagining the worst they have endured.

“No,” Sami smiles, sitting up in the bed. “I’m worried about you.”

Q had to swallow the sentiment. Despite how much they wanted to ignore it. Even as the small hours arrived for them to part, they refused to see this as the achievement it is. Facing this decision is one Q has been avoiding for a while.

“I love you too, Sami.” Q responds. “I’m sorry.”

“I know.” Sami nods. “I have already forgiven you. Go find some for yourself.”

Q lifts Sami out of bed, hugs her tightly and breathes deep the scent they had become so familiar with.

Shielded in Sami’s love, the self they had been avoiding, and a tent. They set of into the wilderness.

The first steps were easy. They amble at the feel of leaves and dirt beneath their touch. Slowed to gaze at what was left of the stars and revealed in the courage they found to keep walking.
