Welcome to my brain!

G-G-Ghost

{AN: This is written from the perspective of my character Theo from a new adult book I’m writing called Backbone. Enjoy this sneak peak into this novel and my approach to writing this character. This short story was inspired by G-G-Ghost from Steven Universe and Open by blankstate.}

My world has grown unfamiliar. The air feels different and my feet slap harder on the bricks. There is something wrong with me, something missing. People are starting to see things that I cannot. What is wrong with my sight? Who am I in my own reality?

What’s you’re missing is five steps behind you. A ghost trying to understand how it got here. A bug trying to find where you are.

The world moves around me in familiar shapes but I can’t place the name of any of them. Everyone seems familiar but I can’t find where I know them. I am missing and I don’t know where to find it. I don’t know where I left it.

You aren’t in one place but many. Aloe’s bedroom, your apartment, the lecture hall, the amphitheater your childhood bedroom, even your car. Each piece is trying to decide if where they are is important.

Is it in my camera? In the clay? Did I give myself to Aloe? Or Luna? Did I accidentally give it to my sister?

Everything wants your attention and you’re too in your head to draw a line. Part of you believes that one will form. Another believes you have the attention to define everything you come across. The last part of you only has the feeling of an emptiness it can’t quite place.

What worse? Being dead, indifferent or lost?

You wait to be fulfilled as events take place. As assignments are due. As parties become common. Much will be missed and nothing will be felt.You can only watch yourself move and hope that it finds what you’re missing.
