{AN: Trying my hand at a little bit of fantasy! I have had this idea of a “friendship fantasy” floating around in my head for years now. I don’t know what it was about moving but it feels so much more possible now. Enjoy this origin of a kind of people who don’t have a name yet but have enough pull to make me write about them.}
It is said that we were made from the rich clay we walk on today.
The Sculptor took it upon themself to breathe life into each and every one of their creations. They cared for us the best they could, until their power alone wasn’t enough.
The Sculptor asked their friends for any aid they might be able to give.
We were gifted greenery first. Then came steams and rivers and lakes. Then the wind came to cool us down. Finally, we were given animals to guide us through the Earth’s changes.
After that, it was up to us. What were we to do with the tools we were given, except honor and cherish them? What were we to do but create and listen?
There are those who don’t believe this history. Those who say we speak when we are not asked to. Those who say that we deal in dark magic. Those who believe we are manipulating the Earth.
We wish for them to see the truth about us. “Maybe in time, maybe never.” As my grandmother says. Their belief does not change the duty we must bare. I often wish that wasn’t the case but fate cannot be changed. A pact is a pact no matter how much time has passed.
In time we have fostered Connection between us and the Earth. This is the source of our magic. What pulls us to our Focus. It can feel infinite, but it is not. While the magic can keep going our bodies cannot.
We are fated to defend this land. We are fated to protect even those who do not believe. I have always known this. I just never thought I would be the one defending it.
